It was a beautiful sunny morning on 26th Feb and I woke up with a warm smile with images of wedding dresses etched in my memory. I excitedly texted my good Friend Kavita to see if she was free to accompany me dress shopping!!
Our shopping trip began later that day just after lunch - we headed to Southall. in West London - the mini India as they call it to see what jewels we could find! Indian bridal shopping is a whole different experience and a rather lavish affair so I was sure that we would be blown away by what we would face that day.
The first boutique we visited was Santoshi's, beautifully decked out with gorgeous mannequin fully clothes in sumptuous fabrics and saris . We hurried upstairs to the bridal section to be greeted by a perfectly gorgeous lady who was decked out in the most amazing dress. She asked who was getting married and we giggled nervously while we told her what we were looking for - no reds i told her, anything gold or white is fine though. She pulled out some heavy brocade fabric behind her to look at - they were lovely, and I asked if I could try them on.
See pictures above, the first photo is from the first boutique we went to, it was a lovely skirt and I loved the detail but the top was too much. We went to another boutique after which had slightly toned down versions as you can see and much cheaper but again they didn't have that wow factor i was looking for.
The third boutique we visited was buzzy and very hot and everyone changing room was taken up with excited chattering brides eagerly trying on one dress after another, this boutique was called momans and I grabbed 2 off the rack to try, i got stuck in the first dress and had to call the assistant to help me out of it. The second dress was very blingy on top but lacked that extra specialness below, As we were leaving a dress caught my eye, i asked the sales assistant for information on it, it was riced at 1100, very lavish but he said they could tone it down for me, i liked the fact it came with a clear sheer bolero to cover my bat wing arms!! I'll think about it, i told the assistant, stealing a quick snap with m camera as we dashed off to the next shop.
All in all we must have visited at least 6 boutiques with only 3 having something i liked.
I took photos where I could as we were not supposed to and kept getting told off!
These photos are inspiration for my dream dress.... oh well the search will continue and I am sure to find my perfect dress.
Watch this space for details on my next shopping trip!!
